Have people twisted feminism for misandry?
Feminism, as opposed to misandry, is an ideology that evokes
equality for all the sexes instead of demeaning the social, political or any
other status of men in the world which the later does. Today, a woman’s eminence as a feminist is
often criticized as being anti-men and threatening to the rights of
masculinity. First of all, misandry implies anti-feminism. It’s an approach by
few who hates men in particular and do not want them to be given power in any
arena. Now, there are instances where feminist themselves have called for the
denigration of men and sexual discrimination among others. Misandry is same as
misogynist while holding men in place of women. On the other hand, if we go
back to the first movement of feminism, we could actually relate to the fact
that feminism stands and upholds gender equality, be it men or women.
While people have often criticized a women’s approach to
feminism as standing against men, there are a lot many examples where women
claiming themselves to be a feminist have shielded misandry behind the name.
The propaganda remains that of the denigration of men, but instead giving it
straight heads-up, they prefer to propagate it in the name of feminism.
People are often ignorant of the existence of a term called
‘misandry’. Hence, when they see any movement emerging for gender equality even
if it does not state to withhold the rights of men, its existence is often
identified as derogatory and demeaning to men while uplifting the femininity in
all perspectives. Feminism is often misunderstood and misrepresented as
misandry. Any movement in regard to feminism is seen as a threat to the
fundamental right of equality. It is claimed to be in favor of women denying
men of their rights.
Therefore, People twisted feminism in two perspectives.
Either the twist emerged from the misandry propagating and heading a march
against men in the name of feminism or from the ignorant who misunderstood
feminism as taking a stance on men removing them from their basic right of
equality. The basic root cause of misandry is a dislike for men as similar to
women in misogynists. Proclaiming something as misandry or feminism becomes a
question if the statement is based on lack of knowledge. People have constantly
twisted the meaning because they probably are unaware of the difference between
the two. While it only started as a movement in the favor of women’s rights,
its definition is further swirled up in the history.
